Accomplished dancer, choreographer and art educator, Malavika Venkatsubbaiah is a dynamic artist with an innate ability to breathe freshness to her works. She is lauded as being able to skillfully br ing modern-day relevance to one of the oldest surviving art forms with her passion, creative thinking and thoughtful choreography. She specializes in the Mysore style of Bharathanatya and is a disciple of guru Dr. Lalitha Srinivasan from Bengaluru. Alongside her creative work she is the founder, artistic director of Natyam Dance Academy in Alberta and is committed to nurturing artistic excellence amongst the younger generation.
Malavika’s dance journey has taken her to many prestigious venues across Canada, USA, UK and India as a soloist and in collaborations. Her outreach efforts include several workshops at various public schools across Alberta. She spearheads the highly sought after Natyam Ensemble who have carved a niche in presenting high caliber and meaningful works and have been presented widely across Canada. Malavika was conferred the ‘Konark Nrithya Ratna Award’ at The 10th Cuttack Mahotsav in January 2019. She is the recipient of Individual Artist Project Grant from Calgary Arts Development Authority for 2018, Cultural Diversity Arts Award from Edmonton Art Council and ‘Natya Saradhi’ title from Bharath Nrithyotsav.
